Novus Celebrates Vancouver Pride 2023
The annual Vancouver Pride Parade stands as a testament to the progress and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, an event that not only honors its history but also advocates for a more inclusive and accepting society. This year, Novus stood proudly as a part of the celebration.
Beginnings of Pride
The Vancouver Pride Parade traces its origins back 1978 where it all began as a protest march through Davie Village, with the first city’s first official permitted parade held in 1981. Over the years, the parade has grown from a grassroots gathering into one of the city’s most anticipated events, attracting hundreds of participants and spectators. It serves not only as a celebration of how far we’ve come but also as a reminder of the work still needing to be done to ensure a more equitable society.
Spreading Love, One Brushstroke at a Time
This year, Novus had the honor of participating in the Vancouver Pride celebration. At the heart of Novus’ participation was an interactive 3-wall triangle, a representation of the diversity and unity within the LGBTQ+ community. One side showcased a paint-by-numbers mural created by a Vancouver local artist, inviting passersby to contribute their artistic touch and collectively bring the artwork to life. On the other two sides, attendees were encouraged to pick up felt markers and share messages of love, acceptance, and empowerment, forming a tapestry of voices united in positivity.
Encircling the buzz of the triangle were bean bag chairs, creating an inviting space for attendees to pause, connect, and recharge.
Giving Back to the Community
Beyond the festivities, we took a step further, giving back to the community that embraced us. In support of continuously working towards a more inclusive and accepting society, Novus made a donation to the Vancouver Pride Society Bursary Program. This initiative strives to support and uplift Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour communities by redistributing funds to local equity-deserving organizations, projects, or initiatives.
Novus extends a heartfelt thanks for the unforgettable Vancouver Pride Parade. From interactive engagements to shared messages, we’re dedicated to supporting the 2SLGBTQAI+ community and promoting acceptance. As we carry the spirit of unity forward, we eagerly anticipate future opportunities to stand together.
